Underground Etiquette

Today, 07 September 2010, the Underground is closed due to a strike. It seems, therefore, like the perfect day to impart my first tip about London and the Underground.

When exiting an Underground train, it is considered polite to kiss the ground and intone with due reverence, 'Thank You, O Mighty Tube Deity, For The Gift Of My Safe Passage'. Foreign travellers should also tip the Tube driver.¹

¹: In the event that you cannot reach the front of the train before it pulls away from the station, you may report to a person behind the ticket counter giving the line you were traveling, the direction of travel, and your time of arrival when leaving your gratuity.
